Shotokan Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art founded by Gichin Funakoshi.  It is comprised of two ancient arts of self defense; Okinawan Shuri te and Shorin ryu. It offers hard style linear and ideally lazer-like strikes and kicks executed from a low based stance as well as more flowing and deflective movements. Precise point of contact is what makes Shotokan a valuable self defense skill.  It is the most widely practiced form of karate in the world today. True Shotokan Karate offers training in three aspects kihon (basic fundamentals), kata (forms) and kumite (hand to hand combat or modified techniques for sport).
